WhatsApp announced that on 06 November 2020 that it has started its payment services in India after getting permission from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). According to NPCI, WhatsApp can increase its UPI user base in a phased manner.
WhatsApp number of users 40 crores
India currently has 40 crore WhatsApp users out of which WhatsApp payment option will be available for a selected 2 Crore people. Presently, Paytm, Google Pay and Phone Pay are big players in the digital payment market. WhatsApp Pay has been in beta testing stage in India since last two years.
WhatsApp Pay has been approved by the government, with the condition that it will be able to use 20 million users at present, while the number of WhatsApp users in India is more than 40 crore. WhatsApp has been trying to launch its payment service for a long time, because it wants to come in the digital payment market in India.
What is WhatsApp Pay?
WhatsApp Pay service was running on beta testing in India for last two years. However, due to some issues it was not officially launched. But now onwards the approval from NPCI, it has been made available for Indian users. WhatsApp is a UPI based service and by which users can send money like sending photos in the chat box itself.
WhatsApp Pay No fee will be charged (Free of Cost)
No fee will be charged for WhatsApp Pay. This information has been given by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg himself. WhatsApp will work on Unified Payment Interface (UPI) system, same like it is happening with Google Pay , Paytm and Phone Pay.
Money Transfer up to one lakh rupees transfer in a day
Talking about the features available in WhatsApp pay service, with the help of this feature, users can transfer up to one lakh rupees in a day. Using this feature, you can send money to any of your WhatsApp contacts anytime, anywhere.
WhatsApp Partnership with several banks
WhatsApp has partnered with ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, SBI and Jio Payments Bank for payment service. However, if you do not have an account with these banks, you will still be able to use WhatsApp payments. Like Google Pay and Phone Pay, WhatsApp Pay will also require a UPI PIN, so that you can make a secure payment.
WhatsApp Pay is available in 10 Indian languages .
WhatsApp Pay service is available in 10 local languages of India and users can use any of these languages as per their convenience. This feature is available on both Android and iOS platforms. But for this, first you have to update your WhatsApp account. To avail this feature, it is necessary to have a UPI based debit card with users.
