Ayushman Bharat Health Scheme

Prime Minister Sri. Narendra Modi announced the launch of   "Ayushman Bharat - National Health Protection Scheme"  in his Independence Day speech on 15th August 2018. 

Ayushman Bharat  Health Scheme - Freedom from Hospital Expenses 

Ayushman Bharat scheme will benefit over 10 crore poor families which approximately cover 50 crore citizens. The scheme provides coverage of upto 5 lakh rupees for each family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization. 

A key feature of Ayushman Bharat- National Health Protection Mission is:-

• the beneficiaries can get the treatment in both public and empaneled private hospitals.
• the Scheme will provide a defined benefit cover of Rs.5 Lakh per family per year.
• With this scheme, eligible families can get the treatment across the country that too cashless benefit. 
• States would need to develop the State Health Agency (SHA) to implement the scheme. This agency will take care of financial transactions between State/ UT and Central  Government. 
• The scheme is going to cover nearly 40% of the population of the poorest & the vulnerable. 
• the coverage of Rs. 5 Lakh is applicable for the entire family (family floater basis)  without the family size restriction.
• This scheme is going to benefit poor, deprived rural families and identified the occupational category of urban worker's families as per the latest Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data covering both rural and urban areas. 
• The expected premium will be less than Rs.2000/- per family and which will be borne by State & Central Governments.
• Under this program, 1.5 lakhs- 'Health & wellness centers' will be established in a close reach of beneficiaries according to the latest Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data. 

How to apply for the scheme-

There is no need to apply or register for the Ayushman Bharath Scheme. The Ministry/ Department will send letters or information to the eligible beneficiaries  

Ayushman Bharat scheme is going to be launched on 25th September 2018 on the anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.
